Sigma Beta Club

The Sigma Beta Club is the national youth auxiliary of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., created to provide guidance, mentorship, and positive development for young men. Established in 1950 under the visionary leadership of Dr. Parlett L. Moore, then National Director of Education for the fraternity, the Sigma Beta Club was founded to address the social, educational, and cultural needs of youth, particularly in underserved communities. Dr. Moore recognized the important role that Sigma men could play in shaping and guiding young lives, leading Phi Beta Sigma to become the first Greek-letter organization to develop such a youth auxiliary. The first Sigma Beta Club chapter was organized on April 23, 1954, in Montgomery, Alabama, and the program has since flourished nationwide. National Sigma Beta Club Foundation

History

Throughout its history, the Sigma Beta Club has served as a pipeline for mentorship rather than fraternity membership, focusing on youth empowerment and development rather than recruitment.

  • Programs traditionally emphasize academic achievement, career exploration, community service, and personal responsibility.

  • Sponsored by local Phi Beta Sigma alumni chapters, these clubs help young men develop leadership skills and uphold the fraternity’s principles of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service.

  • Over the decades, Sigma Beta Clubs across the nation have played a vital role in shaping young men into productive citizens and future leaders, reinforcing Phi Beta Sigma’s long-standing commitment to social action and community uplift beyond the collegiate and alumni levels.
